Reset Windows Media Center Library

If you have ever moved around your music or video collection and or edited some tags, you know that Windows Media Center doesn't do a great job of removing removed files, causing headaches like double entries, etc. Here are simple directions to reset your media center library.

Automated Removal

Download ResetWMCLibrary.bat

1. Quit out of Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player
2. Download the file above
3. Right Click on the file and select "Run As Administrator"
4. Reboot computer, start Windows Media Center


Manual Removal

1. Quit out of Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player
2. Hit Windows key
3. type in CMD and hit enter
4. type in net stop "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" and hit enter
5. type in del "%userprofile%\appdata\local\microsoft\media player\*.wmdb" and hit enter
6. type in net start "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" and hit enter
7. Reboot computer, start Windows Media Center
